Safe Work Month 2021
October is safe work month. The goal of this month is to raise awareness for safety measures, so we can reduce the number of work related deaths and injuries. Hudson Homes takes the safety of our staff and customers extremely seriously. Check out the systems & training we have in place for our staff below:
Certified Systems
Hudson Homes are proud to have our ‘Integrated Management System’ certified by BSi. This places us in elite company when it comes to Residential Construction services.
Our integrated management system includes management of:
- Quality
- Environment and
- Occupational health & safety
Implementing this integrated system will helps Hudson Homes improve our efficiency, reduce risks, & identify areas for improvement, where staff training/development may be needed.
Preventing Falls from Heights
Building a home can be quite dangerous, thankfully, we aren’t afraid of heights! 😂
But we still use measures to ensure that our staff will be safe & sound at the end of the day.
This includes the use of Buildsafe™ Engineered Products. Buildsafe™ is one of the most respected height safety providers across Australia. Their products are specifically designed for the building industry and are engineered to comply with Australia’s safety standards.
Hudson Homes uses a Buildsafe™ Stair Void Protection System, Balcony Guard, Roof Safety Rail and Perimeter Fallguard just to name a few.
Our scaffolding is supplied and erected by East Coast Scaffolding who have a solid reputation for meeting the strict requirements of the Australian Standard (AS1576.1). We love to support other Australian Owned businesses!
Toolbox Training Video’s
Our most significant safety program is our new “mobile phone friendly” Toolbox Talk initiative, which is available to all our trades (contractors) at no cost.
Currently, around 43 short course training videos are available, including a complete section on Residential Construction. Once workers have completed the chosen training package, our automated cloud-based system emails “Certificates of Completion” to every individual who took part in the training session.
This industry leading initiative truly demonstrates WHS Training and Consultation at a new level. The Toolbox Talk Videos and Induction System were developed in partnership between Hudson Homes and Online HSE.
Display Homes
Hudson Homes pride ourselves on the safety of our staff and customers. Our display homes have lots of measures that may seem small, but all add up! These include:
- Appointments encouraged/required based on region
- A first aid kit in case of an emergency
- Wet floor signs
- Childproof plugs in the power points
- Rubber angled ramps for accessibility and to avoid tripping
- Safety stickers on glass fences and doors
- We also bring our stands inside during windy weather to avoid damage to cars and pedestrians
COVID-19
COVID-19 has dramatically changed the way Australians work, at Hudson Homes we have implemented systems on site and at our display homes to ensure our staff stay safe during this time.
All Hudson Homes construction sites have a Housing Industry Australia COVID-19 Safety Plan, and all staff are required to check in Service NSW. Our trades follow the current guidelines as per region, including wearing masks while on site and following strict social distancing rules.
To ensure that our COVID-19 safety plan is being followed we regularly conduct site audits to enforce that all trades, workers and staff on site have successfully checked-in on each site.
All customers who visit a display home are required to check in with service NSW. Most display homes also require an appointment in order to track and reduce the foot traffic following through at one time.
We are taking precautions to sanitise our display homes, while also leaving all doors open to avoid touching. We ensure that all customers who visit our display homes follow the current covid-19 guidelines and wear a mask, if required.
Mental Health
During lockdowns and times of uncertainty it is important to check-in with your peers as it can get quite lonely. During this time to support our staff's mental health we thought of creative ways that staff could connect online. This included coffee catch-ups, trivia, team meetings, and much more!
The safety of our staff and customers is an ongoing concern for Hudson Homes. We are constantly looking for new ways that we can improve and make a difference. Safe Work month is a great cause, and it is important as Australians we focus on safety throughout the whole year, it’s a team effort!
There is more that we can all do, and together we can make a difference.
