Home Maintenance Guide: Winter Tasks
In Winter the weather is cold and unpredictable, so it can be hard to motivate yourself to do those pesky chores. However, there is a few tasks that can’t be ignored! Whether it be cleaning, repairs or safety checks. We have come up with a list of tasks for you to complete at the start of Winter below:
1. Check For Leaks
Ensure you check the roofs of your lower levels for any leaks due to the large rainfall we had during Autumn. If you do see any leaks… remember to patch up these up before they lead to further damage!
2. Inspecting For General Wear & Tear
This as a reminder to check the state of your home for general wear and tare. Things may have been damaged over the last few months, such as your gutters! If you find any damages ensure that you repair it as soon as possible prevent further worsening or hazards.
Stock Up On Supplies
Winter can make us more lazy, our homes are too cozy to leave or maybe it’s been raining for days. Either way it’s important to make sure you stock up on supplies in case you can’t make it to the shops for a bit.
Tighten Handles, Knobs or Racks
Inspect around the house too see if there is anything that needs a replacement or a little tightening – it’s better to fix these things before they become a bigger problem!
Check All Locks & Deadbolts
Home security is paramount to feeling safe in your home. Make sure to check on your windows and doors and change any locks that do not feel right or are broken.
Clean Your Bathroom
Don’t forget to give your bathroom a deep clean! Remove caulk around the bathroom and clean sediment to prolong the life of the property and assist with the water pressure.
Clear Out The Garage
Garages can easily be overlooked, especially if they are used as storage areas. Give it a deep clean, throw out anything you no longer need. While you are there check to make sure there is no mould growing on the walls as this can be a huge risk to your health!
Test Electrical Outlets
These outlets likely will be used more often in winter for appliances like the heater. Make sure you test your outlets so if there is any broken, it can be fixed before you need to use the outlet!
Clean Your Fireplace
If you have a fireplace, remember to check when it was cleaned last in case it needs a refresh before the weather starts getting really cold. A fireplace should be cleaned at least once a year to protect you from a fire getting out of control.
Clean Shower Heads & Taps
You can clean your shower head and taps by soaking them in vinegar for 12 hours. Doing this will improve the water flow and the water pressure making having a warm shower even better!
Clean Your Oven
Keeping your oven clean will further improve the lifespan of your kitchen. Using heat-free methods such as baking soda and vinegar to remove food stains is a great way to clean your oven without using harsh chemicals.
Clean The Washing Machine & Dryer
It is important to keep your laundry appliances clean as dryer lint can catch on fire and be a safety hazard. Keeping these machines clean will also improve the outcome of your clothes cleanliness.
Staying on top of your home maintenance is a great way to make sure your home will be as valuable in the future as it is to you now. Doing little by little throughout the year will make a world of difference!
