Home Maintenance Guide: Spring Tasks
“Spring Cleaning” is called that for a reason! Spring is a big season for home maintenance. It’s time to crawl out of hibernation and get ready for Summer! We have come up with a list of ten tasks, that will help you start your Spring Cleaning frenzy!
1. Check your roof for any damage
During Winter your home experiences a lot of storms, wind and rain, therefore it is important to inspect your roof for any damages that could lead to leaks. This can easily be done using binoculars. Do not climb to your roof! This can lead to a disruption to your safety. It is better to hire a professional!
All Hudson Homes come with a minimum 3 month maintenance period, and a 6 year structural guarantee. So if you do experience some damage to your roof, please contact us and we will have it repaired as soon as possible!
2. Clean your gutters
Check your gutters for any build-up that may have occurred during the winter months. A large build-up can cause your gutters to weaken. If you notice that your gutters do not drain properly, it’s probably time for a clean!
3. Check your caulking
Ensure that there is no gaps in your caulking, this will help you keep the hot air outside during summer, and keep those unwanted flying or crawling guests out of your home.
4. Check your drive-way for cracks
The earlier you get a crack in your drive way fixed, the better! Don’t allow the crack to get deeper and deeper or you’ll be in for a costly surprise…
5. Check for mould
Allowing mould to grow in your home, puts you and your loved ones health at serious risk as it releases dangerous spores into the air. To avoid this ensure that damp, dark places like your bathroom are cleaned often.
6. Prune landscaping to allow for more growth
Spring is a time of growth! Don’t forget to trim back your hedges and other plants to allow for growth of new shoots!
7. Clean the exterior of your house
Close up all the windows and doors, and hose down the layer of dirt that has accumulated over Winter. You’ll be surprised how new and clean it can make your home look. If you do this before it gets too hot, you’ll thank yourself!
8. Check your air-conditioning
Australian Summers can get very hot, so ensure you check that your air-conditioning is functioning correctly. Perhaps you may want to consider cleaning the dust from the vents, having the unit serviced?
9. Hire a pest controller
Bugs love summer! They also love food, water and shelter… but not in your home!
Be proactive and have a pest controller visit your house before the bugs start moving in.
10. Check your fly screens
Following on from having a pest controller visit your home, ensure your fly screens are fitted correctly and do not have any holes. No more annoying buzzing or having to shoo away flies!
Cleaning can be a chore but by doing little by little throughout the year will make a world of difference for the longevity of your home!
